Kidding Around in the Kitchen

During the past crazy week between daycare and school I've been coming up with anything I can to keep a four year old occupied while maintaining some semblance of routine for a 10 month old. Oh, and of course, trying to keep my sanity while adjusting to life without the usual nap breaks (baby sleeps, mama does mama things) that daycare has afforded me for the last year.

'Kiddin' in the kitchen' time has definitely been a sanity saver. It buys 15 minutes of focused activity, peace and quiet, and of course, a sweet treat to enjoy afterwards.

Expect to see a lot more recipes in the months ahead, starting with a new almost no cook favourite. Very simple, very sweet, very satisfying (in a sickeningly sugary, but somehow wonderful way).

Candy Cookie Cones

Put the following in an 8 cup microwavable bowl and stir: 1/2 cup white sugar | 2 tbsp milk | 2 tbsp butter or margarine.

Microwave for 30-60 seconds on high power, then stir well with spoon.

Add the following to the bowl and stir: 3/4 cup rolled oats | 1/2 cup candy coated chocolate pieces | 1/4 cup coconut | 1/4 tsp vanilla.

Spoon onto cookie sheet lined with wax paper. Chill in fridge before eating.
To jazz it up: Make Cookie Cones! Place a large marshmallow inside the ice cream cone and then spoon the cookie batter into the cone to make individual Candy Cookie Cones. Chill in the fridge.
